Description

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CRABS !!! Cancer zodiac sign has the symbol of The Crab. Its name derives from the Latin cancer,literally the crab. The association of this Sign with water dates back to the very emergence of astrology itself and is Babylonian in origin. One of the basic characteristics of a Cancerian is that s/he is very prone to mood swings, which are matched by changing emotions. While in a conversation, the facial features of a crab will change a number of times, displaying her/his numerous moods. S/he has a vivid imagination and at times will drown you in his moods too. Past intrigues Crabs and they love tradition and to collect antiques, old treasures and ancient relics. They are the perfect keepers of secrets and people automatically confide in them. However, their own thoughts and secrets are strictly off limits for everyone. A typical Crab will never discuss her/his personal life with anyone. Cancer is ruled by the restless Moon. Cancer governs home life, matters to do with women (especially the mother), as well as sensitivity and emotional intensity. It is a water sign, so Cancerian people are emotionally intense and deeper than they appear on the surface, while quite sensitive and understanding once you get through that tough exterior. Here I made a collage with a stone crab from a medieval seat I found in Copenhagen, and the core of a mature poppy. With a bit of postwork. thank you for your kind comments.

WOW! This is a rich piece of work! I love the color contrasts and the crabs themselves; they're appropriately mythic in appearance, and the poppy-heart is quite passionate and a bit tempestuous--a bit like the Canceran mood swings that I've experienced on many occasions (much to my amusement, confusion, and amusement again.) As always, your work provokes very deep responses from me: little bits of surprise or simply recall of something experienced long ago, and sometimes very far away.

This really is a wonderful birthday dedication Sandra, and as in all your works you've taken great time to put this together and put so much thought into it. The medieval Stone Crabs are so cool and, it was a great idea to use them here.
