Description

Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me I got a call That made me mad I ranted and raved Which just made me sad Threw myself on the bed To have a good cry Tried to shed tears But my eyes stayed dry Screamed at the people I felt did me wrong Well a whisper is truer It didn't take long To realize it was me Who heard different things In all those words When the telephone rings Not a sob could be heard As I lay there in my snit What a silly way to Resolve any of it I picked myself up Out of that bed Shook off that funk And cleared my head To make it right I walked down the street Shedding the mood That I wanted to beat The moral of this story I've come to see That a walk fixes most anything At least for me 6/25/10

It does for me too. Whether I think things through or walk until I'm too tired to agonize, it breaks the whirling destructive thoughts in my head. Excellent poem with just the right abrasive tone. I'll remember it when I have silly bouts of overreacting and thinking the world revolves around me. Excellent writing!

Oh so familiar!!! Yes - while you walk just shake of the dust... and move on! Wonderful poetry Marilyn!!

Oh. yes, Marilyn, me too. Walking and swimming. and remember 'don't worry what other people think about you, it's none of your business!'

You hit so many nails on the head. I tend to walk for numerous reasons, none the least of which is to maintain a bit of emotional sanity--or, depending on the city, to share cigarettes with a particularly loopy friend who always has something unexpectedly hilarious, insightful (or both) to say. But often, when I walk alone, it's just me and my thoughts, me and the inner me, working to solve a problem, change a mood, or quite simply blow off steam rather than commit homicide. This is quite a wonderful and oh-so-true piece of writing!

Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me (Linda Ronstadt sang it similarly).

A splendid bit of introspective poetry, Maz, and glad a walk calmed and cooled you down, but I'm sitting here wondering what got you so upset in the first place. It must have been a real zinger. Oh, and I walk each morning so I can take photographs of the things I feel are worth capturing. And my thinking includes how do I dodge the next car that doesn't see me as I cross the street.

Enjoyed your poem and thoughts - a good morning walk and a harty breakfast - and maybe a short nap works for me. Dana
