Description

Mission San Xavier del Bac is a historic Spanish mission located about 10 miles (16 km) south of downtown Tucson, Arizona, on the Tohono O'odham San Xavier Indian Reservation. Named for a pioneering Christian missionary and co-founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Order), the Mission is also known as the "place where the water appears" as the Santa Cruz River (which runs underground) surfaces nearby. The Mission is situated in the center of a centuries-old Indian settlement of the Tohono O'odham (formerly known as Papago), located along the banks of the Santa Cruz River. The mission was founded in 1699 by the Jesuit missionary Eusebio Francisco Kino, founder of the Spanish missions in the Sonoran Desert chain, and has been nicknamed "The White Dove of the Desert". The current building was built in 1783 1797 and still actively served by Franciscans. Information from Wikipedia. I know that if I had waited one minute, that car would have passed through the gate and improved this shot 1,000%. Photo taken in the spring of 1996, with a film camera and recently scanned. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Magnificent POV and gate clarity and detail in this beautifully framed shot, Dana! Yes, I fall into the same can't-a-moment trap with vehicles and people. I'm trying to be more patient with my shots nowadays. The thing is, many of the events I attend are loaded with people, so it isn't that easy.
