Description

I shot this one some years ago, when I still was the proud owner of a Mavica. Location: somewhere inside Yellowstone State Park. Time: early summer, when animals were still around to be seen, and hadn't yet been annoyed by too many tourists and too hot weather and forced to take refuge in the most far away, hidden corners of the park to have some peace. Year: I can't remember. What I remember is that I came face to face with this moose almost suddenly. While a lobe of my brain instructed my eyes and hands to take most pictures I could, the other lobe frantically summed up what scraps of information I had about mooses. Such as that the hoof is as big as my head, that they can move as fast as a fast train, etc. This moose, however, didn't bother to demonstrate whether my opinions were true. He looked at me with infinitely bored eyes, munched some tender leaves, then sauntered off dignifiedly. A lesson in style. Thanks for your kind comments.

They are magnificent animals. It didn't see you as a threat so it was OK with you taking a few pictures. Wonderful capture (mooses? meese?).

A peak for an animal as a moose, to take run ... momentum ... or maybe not being a carnivore, he did not think you wanted to branches of shrubs

This is nice.Love the light and shadow. When I first looked at it I thought it was a tree that looked like a moose, then I saw it was the real thing. I've never been face to face with a moose before but I've always thought they were cool looking. I have been face to face with a bear and an aligator. I don't recomend either one! Great capture.

Animals are such a marvel. Often they do look upon us with dignified boredom--always a crushing blow to the human ego, but hey, at least it shows that we have our place, like it or not! I love the quick grab nature of this shot, with the moose so well hidden by the foliage he's apparently eating. I love your description of the event as well, it's so spot-on true of the way the photographer's brain works. I find myself in numerous situations in which the two halves of my brain are yelling conflicting information at me...usually one of these little critters is going to sting you one day...so why tempt Fate NOW by sticking your finger into that hive? While the other side of my brain is usually saying: Oooh...wasps...pretty! Get THAT one to move and you've got a perfect shot. My brain, sometimes I wonder if it's functioning properly! This is a great shot!

Nice shot ... BTW, I recall bicycling through Yellowstone several years ago when I came across several tourists encircling a poor moose with their cameras at the ready. I was just waiting for the poor animal to take umbrage and attack the only person without a car for refuge: me! I pedaled out of there as quickly as I could. LOL Cool work.
