Description

Clear Wing Wasp Moth-Synanthedon resplendens (?) Every year I get these cute moths emerging from the bark on my oak tree. Last year I only saw a couple. Today I noticed a few on the tree at once. I still have yet to catch one emerging from its pupa, hopefully I can get one this week. This one had just emerged. I watched it as its wings expanded and hardened from a crumbled mess. This is the first of the species I've seen and I must say I'm impressed...but ah, insects are impressive, even when they're "dull" and boring sorts of insects...there's always so much more than meets the eye. This is a gorgeous specimen and those colors are quite nice. This one looks particularly harmful (those colors are probably intended to scare predators away) which probably means that it's a docile pussycat, relatively speaking. This is a great shot!
