Description

Frequently referred to as the "Longbow" or simply the "Yumi Gunboat," the Yumi Mk IV is a long-range fighter bomber based off of an enlarged Arrow Interceptor frame. Carrying a crew of one or two, it is heavily armed and armored, but lacks the manueverability and speed of space superiority fighters. It was originally a competing design for the Terran Protectorate heavy strike fighter in development during the first war with the Imperial Consortium. However, the Ballista Strike Fighter won the contract. There were still a few thousand Yumis made to fill in the gap when production of the Ballista lagged due to enemy attacks on human infrastructure, but none are currently in service with the Terran Protectorate Stellar Navy. The surplus vehicles were sold to planetary militias, where they became very popular. They are still in production today in some areas, and are in heavy circulation among planetary defense forces, mercenaries and pirates. The Yumi is armed with four 20mm plasma cannons, six Broadhead AA missiles, and can carry 4 anti-ship missiles; usually armor-piercing nukes or grav-wave proximity missiles (they create a pulse of localized heavy gravity designed to destroy an enemy ship's hull and frame integrity, known as "breaking a ship's back"). Unlike more modern fighters which use anti-matter for high performance and high speed, but need to be refueled after each mission, the Yumi uses an older fusion reactor fueled by helium-3, which only needs to be refueled after about a solid week of flight operations. The Yumi's are designed to fight through enemy anti-starfighter fire, strafe capital ships and heavy escorts, and fire their missiles at point-blank range at areas of the enemy ship where they can do the most damage.

You do the greatest sci-fi scenes, and I love the story/explanations that go along with them. This one is no exception, I'm a big fan.
