"From our hiding place, my squad watched the hulking beasts, at least three meters tall, fan out through the ruins in an effort to engage us. At first, I silently cursed the universe for allowing such monstrosities to walk among the stars, but as I watched them divide in pairs, always one armed with melee weapons and one armed with a rifle the size of a small artillery piece, I began to know true fear. They swept through the oily black water in disciplined fire teams, professional, thorough, calculating. These were no beasts, no wretched mindless shock troops. These were professional, trained soldiers, and I shuddered along with the decrepit building as I heard, descending from the blackness of the void, the roar of the landing thrusters of dropship after dropship after dropship..."
