Description

To call Harmony, California a wide spot in the road is an exaggeration. It's no even ON the road. To get there you have to turn down a neglected road, travel about 200 yards then turn left onto the main ( and only street ) of Harmony. The city was founded by Swiss immigrants who ran dairy farms nearby. Apparently, hard feelings where plentiful and the feuding turned deadly with at least one shooting. To mark the settlement of hostilities the farmers named this little town Harmony. It was the site of cooperative creamery. Today, it's mostly deserted except for a few artists and craftsmen working in glass and ceramics who maintain studios in a few of the buildings. Mrs Sea_dog and I always managed a stop whenever our travels took us along California Highway 1. And of course we rarely left without a new piece of ceramic or glassware. This visit I was struck by the contrast between the weather- beaten, run down conditions of the man-made structures and the the beauty of the natural world. Enjoy

In my world, you may call this central California, but we call it southern. LoL I have also traveled through Harmony but its been many, many years. Population 18. :-) Very representative of the town. Very nice collage.
