Description

Okay, as you can probably tell (or know, from stopping in on my uploads before), photography isn't really my thing. My camera does a decent job for what I got it for, but capturing fireworks is not one of the camera's strong suits - nor mine. I went down with a few people to near where they were shooting off some of the fireworks; they've been shooting them off from two locations for the past few years, over on a breakwall and at the end of an unused ore dock, which we were by. After having my friend fiddle with the settings and then remembering to take the lens cap off after a few shots of stuff off to the side, I hoped to get a decent shot or two. I ended up taking a little over 100 pictures, many with nothing in them due to my timing and several blurry ones. I used a slow shutter speed, but without a tripod, it was hard to get the awesome shots, but I think holding the camera by hand provided some interesting results, some of which you can see here. In a couple of the crops, you can see the masts of of the boats to our right. Not a big deal, but I would have liked to be able to get more shots without them, but two of the shots I took (that aren't here) turned out great with them, one of which I'll probably upload tomorrow, then move beyond the fireworks. Maybe next year I'll have a better camera. Or barring that, a tripod. Although, having some camera shake by holding the camera in my hand might still be an option. Maybe I'll try both, me with the current camera and my friend with a better one on a tripod.

I think you did great. I am really not a camera person. I actually intended to take pictures of our fireworks display this year to post. I had the camera powered up and ready to go. Then I completely forgot about it until the next day! And no I had not been drinking. I just don't take pictures as a rule, so I completely forgot to go get the camera.

Well I think you got some nice pics! I'll tell you, my husband has a fancy Nikon, tripod, etc. and it is STILL hard to get decent pictures! Sometimes you never quite know where they're going to burst!
