Description

A wider shot of the Conservatory at Volunteer Park in Seattle, Washington. I showed you a small part of this a few days ago, and thought you might like to see a wider view of this beautiful building. Built in 1912, restoration completed in 1985. There are five sections, each with different sorts of plants. We only had a few minutes in there, but I got some pretty good shots of plants and pretty flowers, and I'll probably make you look at all of them! LOL!

I've not seen this on any of my travels to Seattle so I'm going to add it to my list of things to see the next time I am there. This is a beautiful shot.

Excellent capture, Tara! Now, how did you arrange for those nice high-altitude clouds? Beautiful - and I'm looking forward to seeing your photos from inside!

A beautiful building. The Victorian influence is obvious. Gorgeous image, would make a great addition to the Seattle Tourist Bureau brochure.

I think I first read about the Crystal Palace in "The Proud Towers" by Barbara W. Tuchman. (My sister has my copy so I can't check) I remember being swept up by the spirit of adventure and discovery of the times, only to be brought down to Earth by the darkness underneath. Even so, I would have love to nip back in time, to walk in the crystal palace and feel the wonder and excitement of those around me. I love this shot and your two versions of the detail. Beautiful color and detail! I agree about the clouds. They are a perfect backdrop for the refined beauty of the building. Excellent light! Wonderful green glow around the entryway and nice shadows cast by the open windows.

I agree with Marilyn that this looks like the Conservatory, in Golden State Park, in SF. But yours has much better detail in the entrance area. I think that there was a World Expo, maybe Paris that inspired so many of these in the US. I’ve seen others that are similar but I’d have to rate Seattle’s as #1 after seeing your posting. Outstanding! Dana

What a marvel! I love conservatories...they all look the same in one way or another--very plant friendly and vaguely crystalline, or like something made by potter wasps with a keen sense of human-style architecture. They always look so light and this one has all sorts of marvelous details, and I love the glass in that wonderful shade of Tara Green...that's what I call it, anyway, and whenever I see window glass, I look for that particular color! This is outstanding work!
