Description

This is the Eastern Point Lighthouse, taken from the granite breakwater that protects Gloucester Harbor from the mighty Atlantic Ocean. The granite blocks were cut from quarries in Gloucester and Rockport, Massachusetts. The right side has large granite boulders to further protect the breakwater from the crushing waves coming in off the ocean. This photo taken July 15, 2009. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

What a capture! This is marvelous! I love those cut granite stones; there's just something about quarried stone isn't there? The POV is stunning, especially for me it is quite mysterious. Am looking inland from breakwater OUT in the ocean, or am I looking OUT toward the ocean which is partly-obscured by a rise in land? Okay, based on what you wrote, I KNOW where I'm looking, but that doesn't change the nicely ambivalent quality of this shot. This is the kind of shot that lets your imagination open up and concoct all sorts of possibilities...some probably far less sensible than others, but all equally fun! I like the composition overall and your wonderful sense of summer-warm light! Yeah, this is a goody, and a perfect dedication!

First off, before I forget, thanks loads for this wonderful dedication, Dana! I appreciate it! Love the POV, perpective, rough and raw textures of the boardwalk and humongous granite rocks, and that stellar background of lighthouse, tower and surrounding structures atop the island, or whatever that stretch of land is supposed to be.
