Description

We spent this past Sunday at a Fly-In in Arlington, Washington. Photographic opportunities were everywhere. For those of you who are not familiar with such an event, think of a huge, friendly picnic on a scenic, country-side airport (not a big, crowded jet port). Hundreds of small planes "fly-in" for 4-5 days of festivities...there are daily air shows, displays of planes of all types and sizes (from what may look like motorized flying lawn chairs to spectacular antique aircraft), lots of camping (tents, trailers, motorhomes), loads of story-telling and camaraderie among all. The airplane in this photo (a historic WWII B-25D Mitchell named "Grumpy") is turning onto final approach for a high speed pass over the runway to delight the crowd...the sights and the sounds are irresistible attractions for all us kids...young and old:-))) Bill:) I invite you to zoom in for a closer look. good work, Bill; these sweet aircraft used to fly over our house in West Texas (from Goodfellow AFB) all the time when I was a kiddo.... good to see 'em still aloft!

Daily air shows? Give me a break. We rarely get any of that stuff down here. Considering Southern California aircraft plants manufactured so many of these wonderful WWII aircraft, it's ironic that we don't get squat, air show-wise. Anyway, cool capture of Jimmy Doolittle's B-25, shown here right after taking off from the deck of the carrier, Hornet, on his way to bomb Tokyo in early 1942.

If you'd told me you got a plane-in-the-air shot that was full of sound and wonder and beauty and excitement, I never would have believed you. But wow ... this is anything but static! The clouds and the foothills below give it an added dimension. Excellent work! :*

This is the preferred event by far compared to the big air shows, much more enjoyable! Great POV Bill! from it a sense of sitting in the cockpit with the yoke in your hands. Feeling the power of the engines and their hum in ones ear. An instant fav!
