Description

This is the Great Hall in the Hammond Cattle. It is 2,800 square feet with an 85 foot high ceiling. You can see the organ against the front wall - in the far right corner. John Hays Hammond Jr designed and built this organ but he is NOT the Hammond of Hammond organ fame. Originally steam operated with 12,000 pipes it is now electric with 8,300 pipes (mostly his original wood and metal pipes). Some of the wooden pipes can be seen, in the narrow arch, just to the left of the organ. Some of the metal pipes can be seen at the top under the stain glass window. I was surprised to see many stained glass windows and religious icons that were through out, since Dr Hammond was an agnostic, Details on the Hammond Castle, can be read on my July 6, 2010 posting. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

What a shot! I love the POV here. So many details to enjoy as well! I particularly like the sense of "place" you caught with this picture, and the stained glass window is what drew my attention immediately. It's funny, I think stained glass and religious iconography appeal to atheists and agnostics more than to believers simply because they can view such things for their intrinsic beauty without feeling obligated to actually "like" them. I could be wrong, but that's my guess. This is a marvelous shot! I like it immensely!

Great job on a very big capture - yet it well balanced so dispite the many subjects it does not feel fragmented !

This place is just TOO cool! I may never make it to England, so maybe a visit here will be enough to satisfy that desire for a while, LOL. Love the fireplace!!! and the banners!!

My dream house living room. But, sigh, I'm no nobleman, nor rich. Thanks for the beautiful photo. So much detail in this. Keep up the good work - would be nice to see more interior shots of this place. :)

Good POV and perspective in this shot of the tons of period stuff and gigantic organ in this cavernous, voluminous great hall, Dana! I can just imagine Vincent Price at that organ in one of his scary movies.
