Description

One of the things I find fascinating has been the apparent discovery of extrasolar planets with some rather extreme orbits around their primary. I say apparent because there has been so many things we thought we understood only to have later discoveries show us how easy it is to be close, but not quite there. At any rate, a couple of systems have planets that orbit much closer than Mercury, and at least one of these planets appears to have a comet-like tail. I can't help but try to imagine a rocky world, dissolving slowly into space as the nearby star slowly melts and vaporized the Icarus-like world. So I started visualizing a world, shrouded by the vapors of itself, its orbit likely fogged by previous passages and a residue slowly drifting outward as the solar wind pushes it away. The universe must be a titanic art gallery, it's the only way I can explain such wonders.
