I am 58 years young, live in Johannesburg, South Africa and I'm a true product of my continent. I love the bush, the animals, sunshine, sunsets - oh well, anything to do with nature. I am unmarried and have three sons - 37, 33 and 30 respectively and three granddaugters aged 12, 6 and 4 respectively and obviously the light of my life! Photography has always been a passion and I have loved it since I can remember. I was still using a SLR camera and only switched to digital only in late 2007! My other passion is travel and I have been lucky enough to have travelled fairly widely. There are however still many, many places I would love to visit "one day." I am truly an amateur photographer and do it merely as a hobby. So please be gentle when you comment on my work. :-) Thank you Piet, my dear friend, for convincing me to place my work on Renderosity. You owe me one! Hugs, Carin xx

I'm a wilderness kind of guy myself and I know how you must feel!!! Lovely image, I can almost hear the breeze and nothing else. :>

I really understand about the city, but I need a lusher wilderness! It is very beautiful though!

It is an amazing sight Carin. I think I understand what you long for.

I have memories of deserts in Israel, I was in awe of the night sky. There is an appeal to wide open spaces, maybe inherited from our days on the prehistoric savanah.

The thing that strikes you most is not seeing the end, have a place front and its apparent immensity.Very beautiful photo , Carin !

Your shots of Nambia could fill my favorite image file. This is no exception.

I like how the clouds seem to reflect the color of the desert sand. Great shot of what looks like a very peaceful place.

TERRIFIC IMAGE!

Amazing vista! Are there any openings for park wardens? Or perhaps you could open a small bait and tackle shop? I agree with you, after a while concrete wears on you.

It looks so very big and expansive! Intimidating and lovely!

Like an oil painting in this wonderful composition of your sister-in-law gazing across the magnificent South African veldt under a blanket of clouds, Carin!

I feel with you Carin as i spend a year in Namibia and we once toured Namibia while we were still part of the South African defence force and this is scenes that we saw.

Concrete sucks! Okay, the ancient Romans made good use of it, but maybe that's because ancient Roman concrete (used as a building material) had little clay vases in it with plugged tops. They provided air pockets that kept the concrete lighter and thus better for building those gaudy and extravagant things they were so fond of putting up all over the place. Modern concrete is just...well...blah and doesn't even have crude human naughty bits scrawled all over it, like its ancient Roman counterpart. Hmmm...concrete and naughty bits...there's a disturbing thought! But anyway, all of this is to say that I'm fully with you on the whole "I'm so over the city" kind of thing...give me open spaces (and WiFi) and other pleasantries and essentials and I'm happy. And this shot...well...WOW...the sense of openness is quite impressive. There's a bleakness here, but it's not uninviting, it's just...Nature's way of doing the minimalist thing--something Nature does well, when she thinks to do it at all. Judging by various insects, Minimalism isn't something nature does very often...so it's even more spectacular when she does. You've captured the vastness of the Namib desert profoundly, and I particularly love those horizon-hugging clouds! Yeah, this is a fantastic shot of a favorite place I haven't yet visited!

As you say 'an expanse of nothing' but well finished by your sister-in -law.

Sometimes we just need to get away and get back to nature. Wonderfully composed shot. :)

It is very powerful.

I love this shot of the endless expanse of this shot. I backpacked Arizona from January 21st to May 30th in 1996. Bad news – heavy multi lens film camera – good news – I mailed the rolls of film home once a week. Dana

You know I don't like the desert in general, but there's something about Namibia ... it's indefinable. I look at these pictures and feel relaxed and at peace, which is totally the opposite of how I usually feel in a stark landscape. What an amazing place that must be! (Ek mis jou frek baie, Dierbaar!) :*
