Description

More from the rusty bicycle shoot the other day. They were such cooperative models! I'm really impressed with the 20X optical zoom on this camera. These shots were all done at full zoom, hand held, resting my arms on a railing for stabilization.

Excellent capture! I'm very impressed with the results. I thought you were within a few feet of this victim of neglect. (A clear case of bike abuse) Great shot!

Agreeing with Andrea...this image is all about composition. The wide crop parallels the horizntal part of the bicycle frame and the round tire provides a counterpoint that is refreshing to the eye. The blurred background provides a subtle backdrop showing off the texture of the deep rust and corrosion. So good :*

Great shot and clarity. I want your zoom! my gets a little wonky at full travel. I love this dead bike thing you've got going. Looking at these shots I suddenly remembered an odd bit of business from the summer of 1995 when I was riding all the time. One day this totally decrepit old bike suddenly appeared in the grass by the Belmont Rocks. It was completely covered with corrosion, there were barnacles growing on the rotted metal base where the seat had been, and the wheels seemed to be hanging on by some miracle of will. The rims were mere suggestions of their former selves, and there were no spokes to speak of, but the tires looked strangely new. Upon closer inspection, it became obvious that style of the bike itself was ancient and possibly from the late 19th or early 20th Centuries. Lord knows how long the thing had been in the water. If i would have had a working camera I'd have made a pix of it. The thing sat there for about two weeks and me and my friends got to calling it 'The Bike From 40,000 Leagues Beneath the Sea.' I had grown accostomed to seeing it when it sudden disappeared. Fifteen years later I still find myself wondering about that bike, where it came from, and where it went. perhaps it was an X-File? Anyway, I like these pix.

That is a pretty impressive zoom! Wondeful work, Tara! Just goes to show what can be done with simple subjects and a lot of artistic vision!

20x optical zoom! Now that's impressive! Hand held too? Even better! What a shot this is. I'm still all googly and interested in the "land coral" formation of rust on this puppy, and I'm amazed that the tire seems to be in fairly good condition, compared to the rest of what used to be a bike. Great textures and I love the way the light moves around all of that corrosion and gives it a nicely organic look: like it's something that grew there rather than just sort of...well...corroded its way through the metal of the bike. This is incredible! I need to go looking for rusty stuff now! I like this. A lot. And then some.

Love the contrast between the delicate blades of grass and the rusty textures of the remaing "bones" of the bike. Dana

Wow! Had that been submerged for a while? It looks like there are barnacles on it!
