Description

The image above was inspired by http://www.utah3d.net/panoramas_4/junction-butte.html ; a photo taken somewhere in this vast wonderland. I've taken many trips from the Midwest to hike this land and must say that by comparison, it offers more views of wide open spaces - something you rarely see back east. Using TG2 to graphically emulate such areas has come a long way; and, will no doubt improve in the coming years ahead. I probably could have made a separate image depicting the atmosphere with a lower sun and merging the two in Photoshop to more closely duplicating the lighting you see in the above link. Maybe I'll give it a try. Canyonlands National Park covers a vast area of rock wilderness in southeast Utah, centered around the confluence of the Green and Colorado rivers. Over millions of years, the rivers and their small tributaries have carved the flat sandstone rock layers into many amazing forms with a wide range of colors. The 530 square miles of the park contain countless canyons, arches, spires, buttes, mesas and a myriad of other spectacular rock formations. The Grand Canyon may be deeper and more dramatic at first sight, but Canyonlands National Park has greater variety, both in the types of geological formations and the possibilities to explore them. It is certainly much easier to find solitude and isolation. Bob

I think you've done a pretty passable job based on the photograph I saw. (BTW, I didn't realize at first that it's a 360 degree image - hold down left mouse button and you can rotate the photo in a circle). I think the biggest difference is the coloring - the photo colors are deeper, brighter and more vivid. But I'll bet you could get very close to that if you played round in TG2 a little bit.

Hey George, that's pretty funny - never thought of it that way. And, thanks to all of you for visiting. I may try a rework on this one.

Another excellent render Bob. I have had a chance to play around with Terragen a bit lately and really appreciate the labor of love you have with the program. Like I said before try adding a curves layer in Photoshop. It makes it more vivid like George mentions in his comment.

This is really nicely composed, Bob - it must be fun to try to imitate / capture nature. Frankly, I don't have the patience for it, so I got to admire your tenacity.

Nice Bob...but, you know me...contrast and color freak. Great image but IMHO :)...a tad bit of contrast and a dash more color and this would be a photo!!! Hoover Man strikes again, excellent work. I may have to change your nik to "Desert Man" or "Desert King" or even better...."Desert Rat" After all you are old enough to remember the "Rat Pack" :)

I've seen this terrain and ground cover color in my travels. Love the point of view, sky and overall lighting. Excellent again.

The diversity of the clouds also lends to much in the realism department as well. This very nice Bob!!!
