Description
Toucan at the National Zoo in Washington, DC. I couldn’t get over the cracks in his beak.
Photo taken in the 1980s with a hand held film camera and recently scanned.

LOL @ Mike! Poor thing, wonder what he was chewing on that cracked his gnashers? He's got a lovely blue eye, and in fact his whole colour scheme is quite arresting. Great capture!

Wow, excellent profile portrait of this handsome chap, Dana! Actually, it doesn't even look real and looks like a cutout, without volume, what with its flat and untextured black, white and yellow colors. And the cracks in the beak look like miniature lightning bolts. Other than that, a terrific image, and would make for a cool avatar.

Ah! Just follow your nose!! LOL... Such beautiful birds and this is a great shot! Having parrots and being used to their beaks, people may not know that they shed layers of their beaks/bills to make way for new layers and it can look cracked...but it isn't damaged!
