Hi everybody,
My name is Dana Pommet and my wife’s name is Josephine. I was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts, in 1942, and except for a tour in the Navy, lived there for most of my life. I retired to Delray Beach, Florida in December 2000. We love to travel and photography goes hand and hand with that. I went digital about 5 years ago and started posting November 22, 2008. I have met so many wonderful people on RR and that makes this whole process so much more interesting than just posting photos. Thanks for all the comments and keep them coming.
Update  January 2012: After hiding and denying my mild Dyslexia, for most of my professional life, and now fighting with its advancement – I want to thank you all for putting up with my poor typing skills and spelling problems. I know that my spell checker hates me and I now depend completely on audio books rather then actually reading printed books.  Life marches on!  ÂÂ

Great capture! I hope that the issue with it has been resolved as well

WOW! What swanky digs! I want one of these for myself and even if it comes with residents, that's okay...as long as they stay over there which they might. I wonder what kinds of paper wasps built this? The kinda hairy yellowjacket looking things (only bigger) or the more brownish ones? Hmm...I'll have to do remote research on that one. Oh, and have you ever noticed that some wasps sound like propeller-driven planes? It's like their wings are powered by an odd number of pistons...I don't think there are propeller driven planes with an even number of pistons...something about shape and some mumbeldy-gunk about obscure mathematics...but anyway, some wasps sound like they have an odd number of pistons too. What this has to to with this photo, I have no idea, but there it is. Marvelous! I especially love the patterns in the outer shell...you can tell how the chewed pulp was applied and probably which wasps applied it...Maggie always does that leftward swirl, while Ethel puts that extra little lip on the leading end...or something like that. Hmmm...wasps named Maggie and Ethel? I've been awake too long...time to go to sleep! This is a great shot! I love it!

Great find Dana! These always amaze me. Durable and each unique. Settlers even used pieces of them to patch their musket ball instead of cloth.

Nice shot! These are nasty buggers, when I was much younger and had no fear I have wrapped the nest in a large garbage bag then cut it down.

I can't even begin to imagine how those little flyers manage to get those swirls in the surface; a wonderful find!

Such a great amount of work that goes into one of these nests...hour after hour.

Fantastic what those little critters can do with a pallet knife, a comb and some clay! I never realized they were that artistic. Kidding aside, though, that is one serious wasp nest, superbly captured with stellar clarity, contrast and texture, Dana!
