Description
Meet Riku. He's the cat I use as an icon, only on this very rare occasion, he sat still long enough to snap this, had his mouth shut, and his paws were uncrossed. (you'll have to take my word for that!). ^=^
The only time I can stroke him is when he is eating. He has always needed reassurance that someone has his back!
I can't let him out - he panics - so I built a huge aviary in the garden, so he has the sunshine on his back and the grass under his feet but still feels safe. He also has trees inside the aviary he can climb, both as entertainment and to get higher so that he can swear at the birds and squirrels. ^=^
He purrs rarely, but complains in loud meow's and wails about the weather, Barney, his food, the dust on the tv....the list is endless!
He can't be stared at too long. His eyes glaze and he attacks. That's the reason I rarely take his image. He is a very disturbed and neurotic cat.
The reason behind all this behaviour is simple. People! Idiots who allowed their 4 children to torture him with constant visits to a 4 metre python in a huge vivarium which spanned the entire wall of their lounge and constantly hummed like a microwave (hence, he is terrified of mine); plastic containers lining the opposite wall, full to the brim of spiders, scorpians and other insects I could not recognise - and, not to put too fine a point on it, a family bereft of any semblence of morality.
So - I had no choice but to give them £25 for the 8 week old kitten and I took him home with me. He had an awful eye infection which they hadn't bothered to treat and it still occasionally flares up, but other than all that - I love him to bits! I just let him do his own thing, stroking him when I'm allowed, playing with him when he feels like it and feeding him when he's hungry.
I'd like to put right what was done to him, but I can't. So what I do has to suffice.
I've not done anything to the image. I took it while he sat in front of a netted window waiting for food.
Thank you for taking the time to look. ^=^

This is terrible! Poor Riku scarred for life. How can so called people do these things. He is beautiful and safe for life now. Well done you!

So thrilled you found him, Carpathia! What wicked people. I have often found that folk who keep exotic pets are several bangers short of a BBQ. (although of course not all.) Poor Riku..maybe time will heal, but as it all happened so very early, probably not. Ralphie has a few issues, and I doubt that I will ever be able to let him off the lead, but nothing like your cat.

Nice to meet Riku, but it was hard to read about his trauma. Glad he is safe now and can live his life whith people who loves him. I have an old cat, Egon, who is my best friend. He loves to go outside every night and sit on my lap all day. Follow my every steps as a shaddow. He is so calm and friendly and loves people. I have loads of pictures of him in my gallery, so you are invited to have a look. Have a nice weekend and give a hug to Riku.

Riku has grown in to such a handsome looking & well loved puss cat. What a traumatic start to his life but he is safe now & seems you have all his needs sorted. It gets me so mad when people treat animals badly, people can open their mouths & say something, animals carn't. Lovely portrait of Riku!!!!

Riku is adorable, and thank goodness that you took him under your wing and gave him the love he so desired, some people should never be allowed or privileged to share their homes with pets. My cats also have a huge pen that stretches the whole width of my home. They also can climb play, sniff the many herbs I grow in pots for them, or just curl up on any of the high shelves for them and sleep in the sun under my huge Cherry blossom tree. They can come inside or go out either through their own cat flap leading from my kitchen or jump in or out of my bedroom window to their own restful and peacful play space. They (all 3) are my constant companions, alongside of course my 2 little dogs, all get on really well and love one another. Love your picture very much, give an extra hug to Riku from me, hugs Jane xx

Riku is adorable and resilient! Cats are proof that apparently soulless animals are just as complicated and emotionally wired as us humans who like to go around thinking we're so special and so much more than the animals we're actually related to...I love the fact that for some people it actually comes as a shock that we're primates...social primates with a body-spanning bald patch. That kinda keeps things in their proper perspective! As for both cat and the shot of the cat, well...you've done a marvelous job, and it's good to see so handsome a critter doing what cats do best, no matter what, and that's to simply be as elegant and cat-like as they're supposed to be. This is superb! Touching too!
