Description

This almost made up for the 24 hours we had to go without power. Almost. Ever since mid-morning on Friday a series of thunderstorms rolled through, one minute it would be raining so hard the roads were rivers, then the sun came out, then it rained, then the sun fought back, only to watch yet another squall brazenly float under its rays to soak us even more. Then Friday evening the power dropped for most of the county, it appears. We struggled through more rain and sun and rain through most of Saturday, and just before the sun dropped below the horizon again the power finally came back. Shortly after the sun made its exit it apparently decided to give the clouds a taste of their own medicine. This light is the reflection of the sun below the horizon, giving us the most wonderful rich red glow. I wonder if perhaps there's some dust from that infamous Icelandic volcano mixed in there as well? I ran up and down the street taking pictures and reveling in the absence of rain. If I had to endure another day of no electricity in order to see another sunset like this, I'd be content to look at these pictures and sit in air-conditioned comfort, though.

Awesome sky! And great shot, of course! Bad weather during those days, even here, in France... :s Hail to electricity!! xD

Very nice picture! Sorry about the power. That's enough of an outage to consider getting a generator, unless the houses in your neighborhood are packed so tight (like my neighborhood) that the fumes will probably kill your neighbor.

Beautiful sunset shot! I'll bet that weather was rough on your stacked rock sculptures! It's amazing just how dependent we've become on our electric grids.

Chicago seems to have missed most of the power outages (though we had a humdinger of a storm a few days ago.) Well...we got some power outages, and our streets were like rivers too...for a bit...then the sun came out and turned the city into a Chicago-shaped sauna, in a yucky way. I really like this photograph. Those silhouettes are amazing and so moody. The sky is quite dramatic and it has the look of heavy weather deciding to go on a bit of a diet (but not much of one...just enough to not be so heavy.) This is marvelous. I like it immensely.
