Description

One of the important lessons from history has been the advantages of quickly set up bases. This was proved during the colonial period, as the United States expanded its population westward, and even during the Pacific phase of World War II. During the pre-war period of Earth's expansion beyond our solar system nations raced to establish a presence and search for usable resources, often competing with each other in the process. Ironically, this race enabled the multi-national corporations of Earth to become the first Interstellar corporations, as companies like Vanguard and Hyde-Dynamics were typically supplying most of the competing countries. Vanguard was perhaps the more innovative, and excelled at modular concepts that allowed rapid set-up and a great deal of flexibility. This was their most successful temporary station concept: inflatable modules that could be stored easily, a support truss that had built-in attachment points that allowed for an easy snap-together construction. These could be expanded at will, moved as needed, and were the simplest of the designs intended as temporary outposts until more permanent (and comfortable) habitats could be assembled. -------------- As promised, my new station model is on-line! I'm very intrigued by the concept of the inflatable station, both NASA and private companies are also interested, with one prototype currently in orbit already. As is typical for me, the model is entirely my own, textures are some of my own and some are presets (or modified presets) while compositing and postwork, as well as the background planet and stars scape were all done in Photoshop.

He huffed and puffed and blew his base up... (doesn't sound quite right, does it?) As always the models are out of the top drawer.

Very cool image and excellent modeling! I also like the idea about inflatable HABS,but as long as we have this dufuss in the whitehouse the only thing that will be inflating with be OB's ego. You did a great job on the modeling though, I look forward to seeing your next picture. Cheers, David

Ooohweee! I love this! And I love the melding of the real and the fictional in so believable a way. You do space stuff so perfectly--as I'm sure I've said before--and this is no exception. Great textures and that harsh "in a vacuum" quality of sun/starlight is top notch awesome stuff! I like this a lot, and yeah, the station and craft are both super!
