I am a developing artist working on improving my abilities to create beautiful digital landscape compositions. Without the help and suggestions of the many fellow artists in this community, it would be a long time before I reach the next level.
BIO
I am a retired procurement professional who has long had an interest in photography and painting; and, lately in computers and photorealistic natural landscapes. I hope to become more proficient and perfect my abilities to produce acceptable work. My experience in art started at a very early age when I would spend many hours sketching and painting. I had instruction at The Art Institute in Chicago, Illinois. I did some freelance work for Flying Models, Model Airplane News and Top Flite Models creating plans and illustrative construction sequences for magazines and kit models. I had spent more than 20 years designing, building and flying radio controlled model airplanes...a very rewarding hobby for me. During the 1970s, I spent 11 years in the hobby of "bonsai"; the Japanese art of miniature trees. In my first 7 tree entry in a contest, all 7 trees were awarded ribbons in various categories. Japanese landscaping became a passion for me where I completed a 3 year project creating a Japanese landscape around my home in Oak Forest, Illinois. I also did this work for several other people in our community. In 1987 I moved to Phoenix, Arizona where I currently make my home. The love of the American southwest and all its beauty is where I wanted to spend the rest of my life. Now that we have computers, digital cameras; and, Terragen; I'll have enough to do for a long, long time.

That's exactly why I don't do postwork, either. :-) Beautiful scene. Love the POV. Corrie

If you do it right they look better not worse in photoshop. Try curves starting with auto, many times that is all it needs, but if it doesn't look right make adjustments and take snapshots to see the differences. There is still a little color casing in this one. It is a bright sunny day in the desert..it should look like it for true realism. Curves or levels is your best bet. Try taking the courses at lynda.com from the experts and you will see what I mean.

great as always

I think that there must be a trick to achieve photorealism in TG2 with minimal - or no postwork. Other than the trained eye seeing the difference between real and rendered vegetation, I'd say on this you've gotten as close to that as you ever have before. Keep up the great work!

Looks great, very realistic!

I think the subtle postwork is a perfect touch!

A very nice render. I like this kind of landscape. Perhaps a little more details on the foreground (little stones - dust - dead things :) on the ground)

On my monitor this looks more photo-realistic than your previous renders. Photographs have contrast and usually don't look washed out...unless there is too much sun and is overexposed. This looks great...IMHO very near photo-realism! I've never seen a photo done with crayola's. "Crayola" almost sounds like a dig at me...I use Terragen and PSP....not crayons, I am a contrast and saturation freak and admit most of the time I over-do it....but, I must say while my images are overdone, your TG2 images though very good, seem under-done, pale....almost colorless. We all have different monitors, view settings, and opinions but, while your opinion may seem right, only my opinion matters to me...my old eyes need color and contrast. :) Are you making your images for me....or you? I hope it's for all of us viewers. Still selling vacuums aye...Hoover man? :) Seriously, great job Bob! P.S. There are contrast and darkness adjustments in the render camera settings...I always set them lower because TG always renders too bright.

Mark, first, you say 'old eyes' - hell, I think I'm the oldest guy here on RDR. My eyes still work; and, yes - although maybe the scenes I make seem washed out sometimes - but, they portray realism. BTW, TG2 has a contrast/brightness setting that you can adjust to your heart's content.
