Hi everybody,
My name is Dana Pommet and my wife’s name is Josephine. I was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts, in 1942, and except for a tour in the Navy, lived there for most of my life. I retired to Delray Beach, Florida in December 2000. We love to travel and photography goes hand and hand with that. I went digital about 5 years ago and started posting November 22, 2008. I have met so many wonderful people on RR and that makes this whole process so much more interesting than just posting photos. Thanks for all the comments and keep them coming.
Update  January 2012: After hiding and denying my mild Dyslexia, for most of my professional life, and now fighting with its advancement – I want to thank you all for putting up with my poor typing skills and spelling problems. I know that my spell checker hates me and I now depend completely on audio books rather then actually reading printed books.  Life marches on!  ÂÂ

I think I started loving brown pelicans for the same reason as Jocko. Once they come to your attentions, it's hard not to love them. They are such a wonderful mixture of grace and clumsiness. Great image! Wonderful capture of him on the post and great color and detail!

GREAT shot! Hope this one stays OIL FREE! (A wonderful bird is the Pelican - It's BEAK can hold MORE than it's BELLY can!") WINK. (old ditty I learned as a kid).

Zoom IS a mush on this one! Especially since pelicans are so completely cool. Recent studies of dinosaur fossils have shown that more of them might have possessed feathers than originally thought, and well...for some reason, whenever I see pelicans, I think of what at least some dinosaurs might have looked like! Poor things! Feathers and that particular anatomy works for pelicans, but the idea of a carnivorous thing with scimitar teeth and feathers is just kinda funny! But anyway, onto this shot! I love the colors and the clarity, especially when zoomed in to full view! This is a graceful bird, beautiful in all of the right ways. This is great!

Capital clarity, POV and silhouetted contrast in this foto of the stalwart avian perusing his milieu, Dana. The pelican is brown because it was swimming in the oil spewed from the Gulf of Mexico BP gusher.
