Description
There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost. -Martha GrahamI began the Curtain Calls in August of last year as a vehicle for giving a moment in the spotlight to alternate versions of completed works. You can still view the first Curtain Call here. Realizing that the final day of this month would coincide with the 200th post to this gallery I considered something a little special. After some thought I came up with the idea of an encore appearance for the five portraits which were most warmly embraced by you and other visitors to this gallery. From left to right, these works are: The Portrait: "Some Pass Me By" [ View ] If It Were Mine to Give ... [ View ] Don't Be Afraid of the Shadows [ View ] My Angel of the Shadows [ View ] The Face That Made Rome Tremble [ View ] Although I am fond of each and every work posted here, I must say, in reviewing your choices, you guys have excellent taste. ;-) I want to express my dear and warm appreciation for the many heartfelt responses to the words I wrote accompanying yesterday's portrait. I spent a great part of last night responding to a flood of mail that poured in about my present decision. Know that your warm and supportive expressions mean a great deal to me and your sentiments will remain vibrant in my senses for a long time to come. I did not mean to convey a "Goodbye & Farewell!" with these words. As you know within your own craft, creative expression requires intense focus and often leads us to places we never imagined setting out for. The writing projects I am returning to have held my attention for several years, sometimes to the exclusion of all else in my life. I needed to take a break from these works during the past year as much as I now need to return to them. I have learned that the best approach for me creatively, in any medium, is to clear everything else from my attention and focus exclusively upon a blank canvas or page until substance begins to flow through. It is a natively selfish process during which, being fair and honest, one should not make promises to anyone about much of anything. I have no intention of leaving you. At the same time, I do not, in this hour, know what, if anything, I shall have to offer you in the weeks and months to come. This is a community which thrives upon the sharing of ideas, creativity and mutual support. Such as I am able to, know that I shall continue to contribute going forward. More than that I can not say on this lovely Saturday afternoon. Keep your own creative fires burning!... & May your finest dreams come to know your face before very long. With warmest regards and friendship, Terry

Thank you, Ute, for these warm wishes! These lines of verse are true and beautiful. They are also very Sagittarian in their philosophy. :-) You wrote: "The most beautiful Portraits that you have done!" Yes ... it would seem that this is the popular assessment. :-D With deep warmth, Terry

Excellent work

Terry, I think you know we appreciate your words as much as your images. For most people it's true that their best work will present itself if they fully concentrate on it. So I think it's a good thing you turn to your words now. But I certainly hope we don't have to miss your images for too long. And I hope you achieve what you set out for.

A beautiful collection indeed although the one on the far right isn't as pretty as the others. I hope your muse is as generous with your writing as she has been with your imagery on this site. I hope we can see some of both very soon. Keep in touch when you can.
Tea_Rex
The Wyz': "... although the one on the far right isn't as pretty as the others." That's why she's on the far right. So as not to spoil everyone's appetite before they scroll through all the lovlies to the left. ;-) "I hope your muse is as generous with your writing ..." Nature has always treated me as a favorite son; I don't expect she'll turn away from me anytime soon. "Keep in touch when you can." I'll not be far from contact, Brother. & You know my door's always open for you with coffee ready to brew. Monica: "I really hope that you reconsider!" I've been hearing this a lot over the past 24 hours, Monica. I really think we're going to have to work somethin' out here. :-) Barry: "... wish you the best as you once again put pen to paper or type to screen." It's often a combination of both. I like going outdoors, into the forest or along a beach to generate rough ideas and outlines on legal pads. In the late hours of the night I transcibe these into a PC outliner and composition program. I could take a laptop with me outdoors but I prefer the tactile connection of pen to paper for raw expression. Simon: "I think it's a good thing you turn to your words now. But I certainly hope we don't have to miss your images for too long." See!... We're definitely going to have to work something out. :-) "And I hope you achieve what you set out for." Thank you, Simon! I measure and appreciate this broad support dearly. Kai: "Excellent work" HugZ :-) Flavio: "Parabéns e felicidades em projetos que certamente os fará com a mesma intensidade." Obrigado, Flavio! Eu sei somente falar do coração com a intensidade e o calor. Eu continuarei joyously. Roy: "All the best with your creative writing Terry, and I hope one day you may post again." Thank you, Roy! I will certainly return and post going forward. The only questions are "when?" and in "what forms?". We shall see. With warmth, Terry

a fine and much liked idea ,that i am sure of seeing the first comments here. i also like this phrasing "an encore appearance" i see this in conjunction with all your previous works, and beeing inspired by your spartacos works/words i made an image already on the 29th of july,my version of Spartacus i call him "Sporakos". as i was not aware until yesterday the 30th-that you leave for a while to conquer other worlds, and i am not sure how often you will be present in the galleries in the near future,i decided to load it up today - see you later bro.

Splendid work!!

A fine collection of superb and very expressive renders. I remember stumbling upon the image in the middle, "Don't be Afraid of the Shadows", which was the first of your works i looked upon, and being impressed with every single aspect it offered, not just from a technical point of view... an experience that repeated itself more than once when examining the craft apparent your vast gallery, and an experience that will certainly repeat itself in future times, each as enjoyable as the first.

Again, stumped for words, so here we go... I like your idea of an encore - although personally I prefer the chick to the far right... My Angel of the Shadows and I don't care what wysiwig says!!! ;D Beautiful work, beautiful words and interesting about the pen and pencil scratching being soothing... ok, so I read between the lines a bit! ;D Until soon...
