Description
This is her picture as she was: It seems a thing to wonder on, As though mine image in the glass Should tarry when myself am gone. I gaze until she seems to stir, Until mine eyes almost aver That now, even now, the sweet lips part To breathe the words of her sweet heart. -Dante Gabriel Rossetti, The Portrait, 1869Today marks one year since I posted A Simple Profile, the first image in this gallery. I considered creating something a little grand for the occasion, a special work with a theme of celebration. After some thought I realized that the most appropriate work for this anniversary was a simple portrait. I set out on this creative adventure with the intent of portraying the human face and I have pretty much stayed to that intention. A portrait is the best choice for this day. During the years I worked as a studio photographer I was asked many times by models and actors for advice on securing "that killer shot" which would portray them at their best. My advice was always the same and it remains unchanged for anyone asking today. I would tell them, first, to not spend themselves broke chasing this grail from one photographer to another. Instead, they should go borrow a camera, pick up a couple rolls of film and spend a relaxed afternoon with someone who really loved them. I advised them to give the camera over and make no other suggestion but that this person photograph them "as she or he sees you." Time and again beyond counting I have seen the finest photographic portraits produced through the eyes of love. The photos of myself which I favor most and which present me best were produced in just this way. Perhaps this is true for you as well. If not, then try giving a camera to someone who loves you and go spend a day together. & Don't tell me that there is no one who loves you in your life. If you feel this way, go look for the photograph of your self which you are most fond of. When you find this photo ... give the person who made it a call and consider getting together. You may discover some things you never realized before. My intention with the portrait above was to create just such a photograph in Poser. For a model I chose my dear Shiloh as we are yet still within that young and vibrant stage of our romance. ;-) From the heart I would like to say Thank You! for coming by, spending time and sharing thoughts, impressions and inspirations over this past year. It has been quite a memorable journey and I greatly appreciate your company. With deep warmth and friendship, Terry The image below will take you to That Sexy Shi' Smile

I like this image; it has a naturalness to it. As one who has lived in a community that strives and struggles to get photos that look natural I can attest to the truth of these words. I am glad that you have found space in your place to continue to be here. Your dilemma, which I stated poorly in my last note to you, is like that of having a second child and having to explain to the now jealous older sibling that love is not something that can be divided. That your love for "him" has not diminished because he now has a sibling. Such is the nature of your devotion to writing. You need not give up or reduce your love of graphic art to keep your full love of writing. Indeed I have found that my own writing has grown, in completely unexpected ways, because of the time I have devoted to the graphic arts. Yes, you now have to figure out a way to share time but not love. You may be surprised to find yourself and better, and perhaps more efficient, but almost certainly more expressive, than you were before you ventured on your most recent journey. Trust me Terry, you are better for being here.
