Description
This is the small cottage built for the keeper of the Maharajahs Well.
It is, rather unusually, octagonal in shape and originally consisted of three rooms; a bedroom, a kitchen and a living room. Toiletry needs were catered for by a small privy at the bottom of the garden.
The keeper was responsible for the general upkeep of the well and the winding gear, maintaining access to the well for the public and ensuring the facility was not abused. These services were to be provided throughout daylight hours.
Finance for the keepers wage and any costs involved in the general day-to-day running and maintenance of the well were provided by the sale of cherries from an orchard next to the cottage which had also been donated by the Maharajah of Benares.

Very pretty scene. The house nestled in amongst the trees and bushes, kinda lends itself to The lord of the rings.

Charming cottage; a bit small, but probably enough for two - though having to go down the garden to the toilet would be a nuisance!
