Description

One more with the class president. This was just meant to be a character study of him in his dorm room, contemplating life. But it just seemed rather plain, so I added some coming of age to the mix: the moment of clarity. Lighting was focused on evening, and upon the wall lamp. I used IDL as well as a point light with linear square falloff; when using this setting, remember to make the light invisible, or else you'll get a shadow from it. I just wanted to thank everyone who commented on the last piece (Class President). I appreciate the comments, and I'm glad that folks enjoyed it. Tags used is just to, perhaps, take some heat off of innocent youthfulness.

This works marvelously as a subtle and even somewhat harrowing character study, as a particular "moment of clarity" can, indeed be a harrowing experience under the right (wrong?) circumstances! There is, after all, a certain terror in realizing: Oh frak! I AM the person mom and dad warned me about! and it doesn't even have to be anything momentous and earth-shatteringly large...it could be something big, like a recognition of one's intrinsic identity, or it could be something as minor as realizing...ya know...I really hate modular calculus...it doesn't matter...it's big when it happens, and this image captures that full, rich, and incredibly human range. It's well done, nicely subtle, and yeah...beautifully lit.

Quite a lot you are conveying there in that one look and frozen moment in time. Great job.

i love the lighting, the DOF, and the overall scene. which is to say, everything. the wallpaper seems like it's in excessive disrepair to me, but most things about teenage boys have absolutely amazed me to learn. things they jumped off of, situations they got into, bathrooms, etc. nice use of interesting props, too.
