Love, as well as it's little brother, Sex, have always been a major component of the stuff that I write, and occasionally, of the images I produce, whether photographically, or through some electronic manner involving a keyboard, a mouse, and a monitor screen. At any rate, Love (and it's little brother, Sex) informs much of what I think of in life (which is why so much of it appears--sometimes in obscure subtlety) in the stuff I create. Love is a creative act, after all...often less literal than Sex, as Love is often the creation of an intangible thing (if you're an outside viewer) and something small, fragile, and in many cases, secret. I like this poem a lot, because of the subtleties in it, and a single phrase that encapsulates love, especially as many of us have been forced to experience it: "Even bonds not sanctified By rites who wend their ways to death as one. For me--and my beloved--this very thing is the essence of Love: a thing often misunderstood by those not involved with it, and something that exists outside of the domain of manufactured ritual and commodified "religious" propriety. Love is what it is, and it takes whatever form it pleases. And your piece of writing really captures this is a very elegant, truthful way. Well done!

It's difficult to write seriously about love without sounding all hearts-and-flowers, but you've done it beautifully. This is a stunning piece! You have me on the edge of my seat for the conclusion of your trilogy.

I read a short story a long time ago. A couple attended a party. He, tall and handsome, a real hunk. She, small and mousey, nothing special to look at. A woman seeing them enter turns to her companion and whispers, "I wonder what he sees in her?" The story ends with our couple standing next to each other and at the sound of his wife's voice our hunk turned his sightless eyes to her and smiled. You don't have to be blind to realize that love has no eyes. Each sentence is a gem.

I cannot count the ways, but in my soul I know with certainty that love’s alive! These lines speak to me, strike chords, resonate. For if love isn't alive, then there is no sun in the day, no joy to be had. I believe for every huge loss or suffering, there must be equal amounts of happiness, indeed, even ecstasy. So, yes, I believe love is alive!!
