I like gates. Brand spanking new ones, not so much, but tattered and torn gates, or gates that lead nowhere, I find interesting. Where a gate might lead is very often a far more entertaining thought than where it actually does lead.
This gate actually leads to the church in Cardinham, but it is the Celtic Cross which really caused my camera to pause a while. We have so many of those here, very often placed amid nothing except Moorland, those who raised them - or are perhaps buried beneath them - long forgotten. That kind of monument to lost memories always makes me feel quite insignificant and tiny.
Thank you for taking the time to look. ^=^

I echo all your sentiments about old and dilapidated gates, that look as if they have just risen out of the ground and always been there, so much a part of the landscape. Wonderful picture, and a magnificent Celtic cross.

An absolutely lovely rural image. The secret with gates in pictures is to have the gate slightly open to indicate a welcome.

Superb point of view for this. I like gates, doors and windows too, always great subjects for drawing as well as photos.

As I've probably said countless times before, the best two years of my life were spent in Prague and other parts of the Czech Republic. In Czech, Prague--pronounced "Praha" means "threshold" in its most literal sense, and "gate" in more informal, poetic ways. Since living there, I've been profoundly interested in thresholds--whether doors, gates, or even glassless windows through which charming insect companions may fly. And so, having rambled off in that direction, I'll say that this image really strikes a cord with me as well. It's something dear to me in many ways, and it's that whole "threshold" thing that does it for me. The gate leads somewhere, it's a potential gate standing between here, and an infinite variety of "theres". That's how I feel about this image and why I like it so much; that, and it's just so darn good! I love the POV...quite a lot! Oh yeah, and I love that feeling of being insignificant and transitory, like a grain of sand contemplating the indifferent vastness of a galaxy; there's something peaceful in that for me, something profoundly "right." We can't all be giants, after all, and how crowded reality would be if we were!

Great framing for a door at the end of a path:) Most people would find it obvious to climb teh road. And the palce itself is great.
