Description
I was down in Marblehead, Massachusetts, looking for an old lighthouse. Found this very pretty lichen on the granite rocks, just a few feet above the high water mark. Thus the title. Foggy morning so the color doesn’t look as bright orange as I saw it.

This is quite wonderful. For me, it resembles insulation of some sort...probably that polyurithane kind of stuff, only it's organic and alive, which also makes me think of the sort of stuff we'd eventually find on other planets; needless to say this is quite interesting for me, especially since I have a fondness for lichens and similar plants, despite their rather woeful absence in my gallery. At any rate, I can come here and look at brilliant beauties like this. And this is quite perfectly detailed. Great shot!
