Description

Imagine my surprise coming across this one day as I was driving towards the Smoky Mountains. This is a new attraction that has opened in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. It is quite an impressive museum to visit. A couple of things that were quite interesting to me were, they have built a replica of the original grand stair case of the Titanic and the cost of building that alone cost more today then it cost to build the entire original ship, also when you first arrive you are handed a boarding pass with a name of a former passenger with a short biography on it, and at the end of the tour there is a wall with the names engraved of those that survived the disaster and then those that didn't. The name on my boarding pass was Mary Hewlitt and she was from Lucknow, India and traveling to go see her son in South Dakota she was along the 706 survivors of the original 2,223 passenger and crew aboard the Titanic that went down at sea on April 10th, 1912. This photo was taken outside the museum, as no cameras are allowed inside the attraction. Oh I forgot to mention the best part I got to tour this with one the members here, thanks Michael I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. WOW! GIGANTIC shot! GRINS. (I honeymooned in Gatlinburg, Tennesee in June, 1975. I drove through Pigeon Forge to get there. There wasn't much of anything built up in that area back then. I have not been back since. (Blame the EX for that. SMILES). I remember renting the dvd/movie of THE TITANIC when it came out and was interrupted halfway through by a visitor. I told that person NOT to tell me HOW the movie ENDED! WINK. My BEST to you and yours, KIND SOUL. TallPockets/brian.

So that's what happen to it! Sounds like a fascinating place to visit. I wonder if Mary sailed back or decided to stay here? After such an experience I'd stay as far away from the ocean as possible.

This is a sensational find, my Friend! It is indeed impressive and I myself, probably wouldn't of been able to walk away from this for a while! Such a tragic but beautiful history nonetheless..... conjures up so many thoughts and questions and emotions for me.... so long ago, and yet not really. Exceptional capture and subject!!

Interesting photo, but as far as an historic capture it misses the boat (there is a pun there, isn't there). The ship hit the burg at night, but I see blue sky. Oh, well pay me no mind. It's a big capture!
