My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

Not only are these orchids gorgeous, but the light you've captured here is fantastic. Excellent!

This is really lovely, Tara. The combination of leaves is really intriguing. The strong blood-red of the flowers stands out well. Stunning work.

What an outstanding picture. This should be in a calendar that features orchids. I love the color of the orchids and the green leaves in the bottom right are equally beautiful and make a nice addition of color. Wow, what a shot! I told my husband yesterday I want to make a trip to Seattle and one of the things I want to do is visit this conservatory.

Wonderful composition. Perfect placement of the elements and a wonderful background - masterly work.

This image gives a 3D impression. The DOF you selected via your manual settings is striking. This is a real winner.

One of my very first jobs was inventory in an orchid nursery. They were in greenhouses that were kept at 90 degrees, with humidity about the same. I had to write down what was on each plant, the name (about a mile long!!), how many leaves, where it was, etc. Little did I know that some of these were worth thousands of dollars---that's probably why yours was locked up!! Oh, and a month after we finished the inventory, the place was ROBBED--our work paid off (and the robbers were caught, not a lot of places to fence an orchid!!!) Anyway, this is gorgeous, the color is lush and deep!!

They certainly look special. Superb lighting and composition. Like Marilyn said, maybe they've had problems with theft.

I'm certainly no expert on orchids, but I know some varieties are extremely rare, and like beachzz said, can be extremely expensive as well. These are certainly beautiful specimens. Excellent photo, Tara!

This is stunning, and though I don't know much about those flower thingies, I do know that there are orchids around that cost as much as the GNP of a small country. I suspect these beauties are such critters, and they're gorgeous! I love the pomegranate color of the petals and the arrangement of the leaves--there's quite an elegance to the composition, and the clarity is fantastic. I really like this shot, immensely.

Wonderful shot !!!
