Description

Gulls (often called seagulls) are birds in the family Laridae. This is most likely a Herring Gull. They are usually grey or white, often with black markings on the wings. They typically have harsh wailing or squawking calls, stout, longish bills, and webbed feet. They are about 25 inches (64cm) long with a wing span of 58 inches (147 cm). It has been my experience that they will eat just about anything. Photo taken July 15, 2009 in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

I like these birds a lot; they're noisy, nosy and generally quite annoying. But they go after what they want, don't really care whose way they get into! Nice shot of this guy!!

I like these birds a lot too--they're so...well...bold! We have zillions of them in Chicago, usually around areas of prime scavenging and not necessarily near the lake. I guess they're Land-gulls! They are such elegant creatures though, and they're pretty good at high-speed precision bombing...but that's another story. I love the pose of this guy and the background. This is quite well seen.

I love 'em even though they wake me up at very first light most days. I think the chefs at the very posh tennis club 100 yards away must throw stuff out for them, or the elite members are leaving a trail of rubbish! I've lived in this house since 1949 and can't ever remember seeng so many on a daily basis.

Great shot with the bird sharply contrasted amidst the massive darker rocks, Dana. We get lots of these gulls around here, especially during an approaching storm.
