Indian sheen... by KarmaSong

No Tibetan custom is as well known as the offering of a 'kata' or silk greeting scarf. It is an auspicious symbol which lends a positive note to the start of any enterprise or relationship and indicates the good intentions of the person offering it. This kata which was offered to me on my first arrival at Kathmandu airport is featured here next to the Indian sitar I used to play when I was a student!
Thank you very much for your comments on my last photo and gallery. Have a nice day!...please zoom !

So glad I was able to see this before leaving for the day as it is so inspiring Jean-Luc. Zooming in is a must to take in all the details of this beautiful scarf. Never having heard of this custom made it all the more enjoyable and it is something that is a great idea.

Zooming shows off the beautiful textures of the weaving of this silk ceremonial gift. It is a fitting companion to the Sitar, both bring peace to the heart and mind. I don't even have to close my eyes to hear the music.

Hello Jean-Luc my mother has asked me to write this for you. I have always been fascinated by silk worms and how beautiful the silk cloth is. Your intro was very interesting and a custom that I had heard of before, but never actually knew of anyone who has had this pleasure bestowed upon them. I thought this photo was a real piece of magic in art, and obviously you treasured both these memories of your sitar and the beautiful silk scarf, therefore married them together within this superb picture, well done! hugs Jane and Lisa xx
