Description
This is a shot taken in early spring along the railway tracks (you can see a train rattling along on the left)leaving the railway station in Padova, Italy. The area is full of large sheds, warehouses, large and small workshops, some abandoned, others still working. The wall in the image fences an empty area waiting for the constructors to build when they can get the best price. Currently it hosts heaps of rotting pallets, used by the homeless and illegal aliens to warm the cold nights off. Opposite the wall there is the strongest post-anarchist social center in the region, that represents the law and order here, with the mayor's and the police's blessing. In fact, they not only represent an interesting number of voters, but also keep stray dogs in line. This is a paradise for muralists and graffiti writers.
The street along the railway tracks is also a sex market during the night, but sometimes things go very wrong. Two weeks ago a serial killer was arrested at the nearby Padova railway station: he was going to meet his third victim, an escort girl. Serial killers, however, are much less likely to kill a woman than (ex)husbands, fiancés and lovers. More women were killed this year in Italy by their partners or ex, than all the Italian soldiers killed in Irak and Afghanistan put together.
The image reminded me of a mix of hyperrealist art and photojournalism. The artist probably thought of the hard-boiled crime scenes when a prostitute's body is found near the trash bins. And women are often considered trash by their killers. I added a bit if postwork to get a bleak mood.
Hyperrealism is a genre of painting and sculpture resembling a high resolution photograph. The term is primarily applied to an independent art movement and art style in the United States and Europe that has recently developed since the early 2000s. The word Hyperréalisme was created by Isy Brachot in 1973 as a French word meaning Photorealism. It was the title of a major catalog and exhibition at his gallery in Brussels, Belgium in that year. Hyperrealism has its roots in the philosophy of Jean Baudrillard, 'the simulation of something which never really existed.' As such, Hyperrealists create a false reality that is a convincing illusion; one based upon a simulation of reality (the digital photograph). Hyperreal paintings and sculptures are an outgrowth of extremely high resolution images produced by digital cameras and displayed on computers. As Photorealism emulated analog photography, Hyperrealism utilizes digital imagery and expands upon it to create a new sense of reality.

A most excellent capture! It is a sad statement on the human race that such these murders go on, and in such alarming numbers! I feel so sorry for the victims. Thank you for the wonderful lesson in hyperrealism too! Very interesting and informative and very well written! Bravo! Most appreciated!

Great wall art and capture!!!

This really is one powerful photo Sandra, and your commentary really hit home about domestic violence. There is a center for the blind in our area that also takes in battered women and attempts to protect them from the animals they were once with.

in spain the same shit (sorry)but it must be said.these brainless motherfucking machos are just killing their wifes stabb them or beat them to death. untolerable and another thing i read in the news. a lot of young people are beating their old parents to squeeze money out more than 15000 case known in the community of valencia ,and knowing statistics we could easy add rat least the double as unknown case, people dont denounce because of shame and all that.

FANTASTICA IMAGEN.

Crime seems to be ruling the world cuz nobody does anything except slap people wrists for it...some do NOT deserve a trial, just my opinion. Whatever they did to their victim should be done RIGHT BACK to THEM!!!

This image is telling a big story. Well captured.

Fine job Sandra. Hyperealism is to digital photography as Photorealism is to analog photography...makes perfect sense, just have never put all those thoughts together before.

Having dealt with both prostitutes and battered women from their husbands/boyfriends, and there are many heart-wrenching stories out there. One young woman was beaten so severely that she did not know she was terribly injured. She still "forgave" the monster. Every one of them needs help. A very interesting image you have here.

Quite a lot of interesting information here. In my city, bodies are found on a regular basis. There is no outstanding social class, though. A bullet find a mark without asking for their station in life. nice shot.

More social disorders caused by the almighty dollar! A blood boiling narration and moving image!

Very moving image and narration. Ironic placement near the trash bins. At least there is some help in the Western countries. See the current Time magazine cover for conditions in Afghanistan.

men and women both push their partner or boyfriend to the brink.if people would just back off and not give ultimatums,or threaten them maybe some of the "killers" would not cross that threshold.some just go crazy without any warning and no one can predict that type. so many times one partner or the other make threats like their going to take the children away where the other can not find or other drastic statements just inviting violent behavior. the graffiti seems very sad. nice shot

Certainly brings you up short to see it. It is a statement of fact for too many women. Again I learn so much from your posts, this time hyperrealism and photorealism, wonderful information. Thank you.

Very sad that this hate continues in what once was such a great nation. Strange graffiti but super capture. Dana

Purtroppo molta realtà e poca fantasia in queste notizie . E questa cruda realtà finisce anche per condizionare i graffiti !

An impressive mural you capture with style, and the narrative contains information that alas, freezes my blood.
