Description

Hecate is part of the Lunar Triad, with Selene and Artemis. Hecate is the new moon or dark moon, which symbolizes death, while Selene and Artemis, respectively, represent the full moon, which symbolizes birth, and the crescent moon symbolizing maturity in the life cycle. Hecate has two opposite aspects: protecting goddess associated with fertility cults, providing material and spiritual wealth, honor and wisdom, conductor of souls swept away by the storm but also the goddess of darkness and death. She is the chthonic goddess of the dead and is honored as the goddess of the crossroads because they would link the underworld, earth and sky. She is also the goddess of darkness, which causes nightmares and night terrors, and ghosts and phantoms. She is the magician par excellence and the mistress of witchcraft upon which all magicians calls. Some call her Juno, others Bellona of the Battles, and still others Hecate. The Ethiopians and the Egyptians whom worship me, do call me Queen Isis. For the late Hellenic and Babylonian ("Chaldean"), Hecate was identified with Ereshkigal, the underworld counterpart of Inanna in the Babylonian cosmography. She is also comparable to Hel of Nordic myth in her underworld function. This work is delightful for those of us who follow the dark maiden. The marriage of the portrait and the background is perfection. This is a powerful interpretation of my favourite dark Goddess, the colors are a great match and you have given her a beautiful expression. Straight to faves from me, I am sure Robert will love it.

Yep, I love it! This is your best image so far, Allain. You have done an excellent job of matching the lights on the character to the colors of the background, the props you used are totally appropriate (where did you get that chalice with the moon symbols?) and the post-work adds the perfect finishing touch. (I caught that dark star that you added to the sword of death!) The added notes about the dark goddess were totally interesting and appropriate, too. It's always great to see an image that has added context like this. Bravo, Allain, and thank you!
