Description

Volunteer Park and the Lake View Cemetery sit atop Capitol Hill in Seattle, Washington. It's one of the highest points in the city, and commands an astonishing view of Lake Washington and the Cascade Mountains. Lake View Cemetery was established in 1872, around the time the original Seattle pioneers started kicking off. It's a pretty swanky place! At most cemeteries around here they let you have your dog on a leash as long as you clean up, but at Lake View, Mandy had to stay in the car. She didn't mind. All the windows were rolled down, we parked under a big tree, and she had a nice nap. If you want to know more about this place, you can visit their website: Lake View Cemetery As a side note, this is where Bruce Lee and his son Brandon are buried. The website has a special Bruce Lee link on the History page. Zoom on this one ... it's a two-shot pano, and I've left it big.

This is a spectacular view looking eastward toward Lake Washington and captured from this commanding hilltop. Your pano is a perfect way to give a glimpse into what we saw when visiting the graves of many influential Seattle pioneers. Just imagine...there was no Seattle and nothing but trees as far as the eye could see until the first pioneers arrived by steamboat in the early 1850s.

What a fantastic pano! WOW! I like your Lake View better than the Lakeview over here, probably because the Lakeview over here has been turned into yuppie central and all commanding views of the lake are consumed by swanky condo stacks. The greenery is what draws me and the fact that it's a cemetery is quite intriguing too...imagine all of the history there, just in the tombstones themselves! This is just scratching the surface of the stuff that's simmering just below the surface; but that's why I like cemeteries; you never know what famous people you're gonna come across until you look at a headstone and then google the names or the dates on them. It's kinda like a version of the Agaran walls that talk, only it's prettier than a wall...much bigger. I have yet to try any sort of pano photography or a variant of it, but this is really inspiring me to try that...just as soon as I find a subject. Really fantastic stuff. And dogs in cemeteries, as visitors you might have to clean up after? I'm from Chicago, that's an alien concept, and even in Mady wasn't allowed in this one...I like that she had a nice nap.

Kicking off - lol. I'll have to use that one. Beautifully composed, very tranquil. But why is it that folks underground have the best views?
