Description

Hi friends, late night here in Germany, or should I say early morning? We are at a very busy place in Berlin now, the railroad station Friedrichstrasse (Friedrichstreet)in the middle. A large old railroad station with two halls, built in 1928 or so with a dozen city-railroad lines, some upstairs, some in a tube, and a real subway, too...A railroad cross station. A busy place, frequented by hundredthousand and more people per day. Fine old steelwork and a modern shopping passage downstairs, with lights and a warm and cosy atmosphere for us. For us? Hmmmmh well, not for ALL of us. This lady here, a Sinti woman from Romania, must be outside. No music allowed inside, don`t disturb our circles, don`t disturb our business! This is our place, not yours! And so this lady sat in this dark and dirty passageway, where the wind blew, and made music for us. Winter was at its maximum, when this pic was taken. The lady smiled, when she detected me. And I was ashamed...... Pic was taken at 16th. February 2009. Location: Friedrichstrasse Railroad Station, Berlin - Mitte Thanks for all of you who commented my yesterdays pic. It was overwhelming. A special THANKS for those, who took pics as favorites. Please feel free to send comments, both directions, all are welcome. Good night for this moment and best wishes for you all. billcody, Berlin

Bill, you have a heart and empathy. Some do not but you are the blessed one. This photo with the text is a fine statement. She may feel less sorry for herself than we do and perhaps therein is a lesson, too. I only speculate.

So good to see a human touch in a forlorn looking landscape. That lady has a look of resigned satisfaction on her face.

Great capture and a great story. Unfortunately just too real - the haves and the have nots!
