Description

Lake View Cemetery in Seattle, Washington, is quite a place. There are elaborate statues, over-the-top family markers, and simple stones so worn by time they're nearly unreadable. We had a wonderful time there, and are looking forward to going back for further exploration. I'm not sure how old this statue is, but based on the style and the surrounding markers, I'd say it's right around the turn of the last century.

A very pretty and doubtless hugely expensive lady. I have reservations about lavish expenditure on memorials, but at least we all benefit from seeing them!

Hi Tara, again it is exciting, to see your country with your eyes, with your explanations. Thankyou, and all the best Bernd

Such a poignant image. It suggests death at an early age. Your description reminded me of a visit to Karamikos cemetary in Athens. It is 2500 years old and the inscriptions on the markers have long since worn away so that every grave is unknown.

She reminds me so much of the statues you find in Paris cemetaries although they are far more extreme in their memorialization of the dead. For myself, I shall lie in the heart of Wales, in the Boduan Forest. Folks can walk about me, wildlife can play over me and birds can land in the tree growing above me. ^=^ Beautiful image. ^=^

A family marker like this often makes me stop and ponder. In my pondering tonight I came across this: Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there; I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die. attribution: Mary Frye (1932)

Very nice POV to capture the trees and blue sky to contrast the statue. Extra points for including the headstones behind. Dana

I love old grave markers, and pseudo-old grave markers, and new ones too. There's just something about them that will always be sacred. THIS marker reminds me of an image I once saw accompanying a Dead Can Dance album, back when Dead Can Dance was active in the music world. Now, Lisa Gerrard (my reason for listening to that group) has a solo career and I'm just as happy. Anyway, this looks like the sort of image I love the 4AD record label for. I love the POV here and the wonderful details that you captured. I have a fondness for the Greek Key design as well.
