Description
Wonderful devourers of all things organic, Lichen are so numerous in the deepest part of our ancient woodland areas, you can almost hear their collective applause when another branch is ripped from it's home, to fall sad and alone to the dark, damp ground.
Oh alright then! Slightly over the top methinks, but I talk to trees, so what can you expect! ^=^
I'm certain this little lot have names....Maud, Clive....Henry! But I have not the slightest notion of what they may be! I simply love the beauty of them! They are the fractals of the natural world, at least to me and are just as lovely as any snowflake! And if I can find beauty in a fungi, you can just imagine how interesting the rest of my life is!! ^=^
Thank you for taking the time to look. ^=^

As I share your passion for the natural world, I find you perfectly normal. My interest in lichen extends to having six (yes, six!) ID charts for them from the Field Studies Council! Super pics, Carpathia! The lefy habd one may be more of a Gertrude, she has wuite a set of whiskers!

I used to harvest a lot of this and dry it for use in some of my other art. Very nice panel of photos.

Excellent choice for a tryptic. Talking to trees is normal. Isn't it?

Chicago really needs some lichen imports! We have them here, but of a limited variety, and as it stands I haven't really had to chance to visit the wetlands in the southern parts of Illinois or the one bog we have in the northwestern corner of the state. Eh, not many lichens in the bog-lands, but there are lots of Native American things lying around--arrowheads, more arrowheads, and some arrowheads thrown in the mix, just to keep things interesting. As for these lichens: WOW! What specimens! I love the more extravagant ones as they remind me of land-dwelling coral; and they're probably just as fragile as actual coral. I'm always fascinated by the subtle grades of color ONE species of lichen will express. And don't worry about talking to trees...I have a habit of talking to insects, and other multi-legged things, especially yellow jackets, woodlice, and the occasional grasshopper.
