Description

Before I waffle on about Arabella, she who graces the above image, I have a little treat for you. Gosh I am the font of human kindness! I recently posted an image of Postbridge, a small village in the middle of Dartmoor. Well, coincidently, I came across this site yesterday, (I don't actually believe in coincidences - so let's just say some Celtic god pointed me in it's direction - ^=^) - and I thought you might like to take a look at how mail was delivered in 1957 in and around Postbridge. Not only is it lovely to look at but it gives a real insight into the at least one aspect of village life. ^=^ http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=159 Now for Arabella, the Charolais cow who resides on Dartmoor among her Limousin compatriots and who is, without any doubt whatsoever, one of the sweetest natured moomins I've ever known! If she is around when I arrive at one of my usual spots, she ambles up for the salt lick I carry and proceeds to lick, suck and dribble her way through much of the block. She then ambles down to the stream with me close on her hooves; she slurping the spring water up greedily, whilst I try desperately to wash off the gooey substance left behind on hand, wrist and forearm! Someone has no manners! ^=^ I don't know what her real name is - the chances are she hasn't got one - but regardless. To me she is Arabella. Besides, she responds to it - or perhaps to the salt lick.... Regardless! I think she likes the name I use for her and I also prefer the world I live in!! ^=^ Thank you for taking the time to look, the comments and the faves and I hope you enjoy the Postbridge video. ^=^

She looks so beautiful, and I shan't start to worry about wrinkles on my neck if I look as well as her!

What an image and write up...there is something infinitely amusing about what a cow leaves behind after licking salt from your hand...some people, I tellya! Bovine manners are impeccable, however, in a bovine world. And what a shot this is. I love the cowlicks she's wearing on her forehead and I think it's hilarious in that self-referential way that a cow that had just licked salt was also in possession of cowlicks, rather like some kid with temperamental hair! I love her expression too, and the details of her neck wrinkles. The way that flesh hangs reminds me of a dewlap, but I have no idea what you'd call such a thing on a cow. Oh well...I like it anyway. I like this shot quite a bit. It's wonderfully gentle.
