Description

Or would that be reloading? Captured 7/31/10, at an American Civil War Reenactment held at the vast and beautiful El Dorado Park in beautiful Long Beach, California. Much better viewed full size. Union soldier shown preparing for the big battle that will shortly ensue. Looks like a cap and ball pistol to me. Incidentally, the soft cap with the flat top and stiff visor worn by both the Union and Confederate soldiers is called a kepi, a style originated by the French. There are several variations on the basic design, depending on the parties involved. Auf weidersehen, thankx for coming by, and for any all complimentary comments and faves.

Definitely better full view. There are allot of little details in this that would suck if missed seeing. Cool pistol...my dad used to have several guns and he favored one pistol that looked allot like this one...but I have no clue what a correct name for it would be...he's also int black-powder weapons as well.

The kepi was in use until about the 1930's, I believe. Those pistols probably not:)

fascinating to see this.. In Atlanta Georgia where parts of the battle took place, there is now a museum called the Cyclorama, that I have visited in the past I know you would enjoy going there, maybe someday you can.. but here is a link if you are interested.. When I first visited it remind me of one of the attractions they use to have at Disneyland with the huge circular pictures of America if you remember ever seeing that at Disneyland not sure why they ever removed that I thought it was awesome... Very interesting. Our family had soldiers on both sides, which most of them probably did. To think some of them wore these clothes and boots. I still do genealogy.

Great shots (no pun intended!) I don't know anything about guns or ammo other than to recognize that I'm seeing some...but your photo documentary is fascinating!

Fascinating. I have a replica 1860 Army pistol...yep, cap and ball. Now, all I need is everything else to go with it. These are fun shots...nice sequence to see...
