Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

LOL love the title, and the tale that goes with it. I agree, it is a really good movie. Still makes me afraid to go in the water...

LOL @ Marilyn! She nailed it with that one! This is a cool shot! Kinda like Christine in Albany Park with music by John Williams. I like this shot and the write-up brings back my childhood. I was a weird kid. I didn't want to see Jaws because I knew that the shark was gonna be killed in the end. In the 1970s, I'd decided to lodge my protest against monster movies until I was absolutely sure that all human characters in the story were stripped of their weapons and stuff and had to go hand-to-hand (or hand to fin) with the monsters in a sort of gentleman-warrior's fight to the death. Okay and having said all of that, I have to say that Jaws is the great-grand-daddy flick that spawned the Jaws franchise, and other classics such as Piranha flicks (they're re-making Piranha!) Okay, this is a frakkin' long comment, and it's all because of a man-eating car with oil (antifreeze) sitting near by as a chaser. Ya' need a good lube after devouring man-meat. It's a bit dry ya know. Great shot.

Please tell me when it's safe to go back in the gutter.....do do do do do do do do!

Oh, you have to watch those Chevy vans! They lure men in by leaving a cloth to lie on and a little STP lying around...next thing you know some guy is climbing under just to have a look...and, BAM! Another one to watch out for is the Chevy Avalanche...don't get caught in one!

Fab!! I have to share a rather embarrassing moment. My brother was a car mechanic until he realised that driving cabs was much more fun in your 60's than lying under them in cold wet weather. Anyway, I was passing his workshop and couldn't resist a sort of sisterly 'goose'. "Hi, Derek!" and a quick tickle. Well, it wasn't him. This complete stranger was so startled he banged his head on the sump....OH NO! I still go pink at the memory.

LOL ! I can imagine it all and this is such a great shot too :-)

Maybe who ever saves him they better not startle him, he might hit the old hear, leaving a big bump. Great photo.

fabulous snap!!

It's the flailing leg that really makes this shot. What a great image! I never saw Jaws but even without that reference, the picture and the title together are complete. Good thing you thought to grab your camera!

I thought the same as Tara. It looks like his left knee is trying to stop his body from being pulled under. I remember being in the ocean having a great time when I was stationed in Japan. Then I looked down at the water realizing that I could see nothing below the surface. I thought of the scene in Jaws looking up at the surface of the water, all of the legs temptingly moving around, and the shark, unseen. I decided I'd had enough and headed to the shore. Great image and funny title! Love whaleman's comment!

excellent image!!!!

We need a bigger boat! Jaws, the original, that is, is definitely the best movie I ever saw. I've lost count on how many times I've watched it. Good detail and cool POV employed in this shot of the unsuspecting chap being gobbled up by his van.

That movie scared me too Corey and I was in my 40's when I saw it. Now I live in Florida and am friends with a woman who lived on Martha's Vineyard where the movie was shot. Her oldest daughter was one of the child extras in it. She & her husband, who was the sherif at the time, ate & played cards with the cast. Small world. Great shot.
