Description

This is the south tower of the Canal Street Vertical Lift Bridge, which is located over the Chicago River at...hmmm...could it be Canal Street? This is also on the northern border of Chinatown where it was made on a photographic trip with Chip on October 25, 2009. Chip has posted about umpteen zillion pictures of this thing, so I thought I'd have another go at it. As always, thanks for viewing my gallery and leaving comments, and I hope everyone is having a good week--and preferably less busy than mine.

Oh yes, a terrific POV used to capture the various geometric angles and features in this excellently silhouetted capture of the old tower.

That bridge! You know, it doesn't matter how many times I see it or from what angle: it always seems new. I'm glad you posted this because it's such a monumental shot...literally as well as figuratively. The POV gives such a real sense of scale and those clouds rolling in are incredibly moody; the green glow of mercury vapor light really makes this pop in a wholly different way as well and I love all of the details popping in a way different from the light. In short, this is a fantastic photo and it makes me want to revisit that bridge (again) and take more photos of it with a different sky. I wonder how different a new set of clouds and a different angle of light might make this look. Great shot. Nicely moody.

Terrific capture of this fascinating bridge! I love the wild crisscrossing of lines! Wonderful combination of solid beams and lattice work. Excellent details of I know not what functions. Looped cables, little boxes, and a wheel. Great atmosphere and love the green light!
