Description
It is for many sailors a home away from home, a place one can go to find out where they are, stay in touch with other vessels, communicate with those on the mainland and at home. Its a place on cold nights at sea or on the lakes that one can go to have a smoke, a cup of jo, & some conversation it the place that tells all the crew of whats ahead and of fair weather & foul. Its the wheelhouse the place that one stands hands on the wheel a well educated eye on the compass and a strong understanding of wind, current and tide in order to keep that course of 0.95 on a steady heading with a ever so slight variation in degree of 1 point either side of the heading. Tricky business that calls for a steady hand and strong mind.
This came off the tug " Glenburn " built in the late 1940's and served well until the late 90's when it was overhauled, new engines, a newer wheelhouse put on with up to date gadgets and devices to make sea duty safer. Her hull was left intact and today she still looks sleek as a race horse.
I took the liberty of turning it into a watercolor using " Corels " " Paint It " a sweet lil program that allows one to turn ordinary photos into a variety of painting styles, from watercolor to oil painting, to pencil drawings and a host of others. Makes it a bit more enjoyable I feel..........thanks for the peek
