Description

It carried baggage all over south western Ontario, New York State & Michigan, passengers personal effect they took with them on their trips to where ever. Suitcases & boxes carry all's what ever a passenger had it was there. It rode in crack passenger trains or regular trains. It served and served well. The years went by and the railroad fell into decline, a forced one some would say, and baggage cars became redundant surplus, some scrapped other as this one which was turned into a work care and was cobbled together on work trains, its sole function to carry tools, materials now used ion maintaining the existing lines. Eventually it ended here, in a scrap yard awaiting the cutting torch. it sat in front of a heap if shredded tires blocking it from anyone seeing it. I found it by accident after parking my car and walking around the yard and low & behold there it was. It sat on the ground, its trucks long since gone, the only home now for it was several bees & wasps nests. But on closer inspection its lineage was clear as sitting above the door its gold filigree lettering still intact was the # 51...............thanks for the peek

Ignoble ending for a long serving baggage car. Enjoying your archeological finds in the old rail yards.
