My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

Nice work, Tara! I'm a firm supporter for the SETI project! Of course the Cosmos is the 'official' flower

I like your humor as much as I like your photography. Have you seen the movie Contact? If not, you should watch it. Oh, and before I forget, Cosmos is one of my favorite flowers and I love your photo of it.

I've always loved these flowers.

Hehe... I know SETI from the film Independence Day!!! We also have cosmos flowers here every April! They grow wild next to most roads in our province! Even in Afrikaans they are pronouced the same just spelled with a K... Kosmos! Wonderful image of one of my fav flowers Tara!

Hehe......I am not speaking English, I only act like I`m speaking English.... Yes, I know what SETI is, they try to telephone to the stars, but nobody calls back! No arms, no legs, or no tentacles? Or no interests? But SETI is soooooo small? I thought it is giantic....hehehe Wonderful flowers pic, Tara, I do not know how we call this beauties here..

Ya know, there's there are plants out there that might actually have the ability to pick up radio transmissions...something to do with sensitivity to the EM spectrum of which visible light is only a very narrow band. No one has yet proved that plants do synthesize foods from other forms of EM radiation...they probably don't, but wouldn't it be a hoot if SETI was listening for radio transmission bubbles from alien societies as chatty as we are only to learn that those pretty flower thingies over in Ethel Higgens' garden have been picking up the Miss Universe beauty pageant for decades...okay, time delayed Miss Universe, back when the contestant from Proxima Centauri was disqualified because it was learned that her tentacles were fake, and that she was only female for half the year. But anyway...I'm rambling. I love the shot and the complex pun in terms of its name. Knowing the name of these flowers, and their habit of pointing in one direction, I'm now in the mood to listen to some music by Vangellis and maybe search YouTube for clips of the Cosmos tv series...just so that I can hear Carl Sagan talking about "billions and billions" of stars..."more stars in the sky than there are grains of sand on the planet earth." Or something like that.

I believe there are BILLIONS and BILLIONS of flowers in the cosmos. Nice shot. I'm still waiting to be beamed up by the way.

Beautiful photo, and I love your tie-in with Cosmos and SETI! I had to chuckle at chipka's comments - I loved that show, and listening to Dr. Sagan and his "billions and bilions..." I truly do hope we find intelligent life somewhere out there - there's not much of it on this planet anymore... Of course, the 64,000 dollar question is: If we recieve a signal from somewhere 350,000 light-years away, are they still there? Wadd'ya think, Dr. Hawking, Dr. Kaku?
