Description

Bryce7 Pro/Photoshop This is the first in a projected series of images depicting alien environments and the flora and fauna found within.I set myself a personal challenge for these...all the items(terrains, plants creatures etc.)are to be created using only the resources available within Bryce. For my first image,I picked an underwater scene, with a tide pool as the focus. The terrains creating the backdrop and floor of the scene were created with the use of procedurals as heightmaps in the DTE,which gave me some very bizarre forms. The textures are modified stone presets. The jellyfish-like creatures are two lattices...the outside form was created in the TE,duplicated and cut away to form the inner nervous system. These were then grouped, the outer textured in a sheer fabric texture, the inner a modified light texture. The small group of creatures are one lattice, again painted in the TE and textured in a modified gem texture. The kelp-like plants are two grouped lattices created similar to the jellies,a base stem duplicated, the fronds added, the stem removed and the two combined as one.The stems are a modified terrain texture, the fronds a customized leaf texture. The sponge-like plants are lattices with a terrain texture applied. The sun was removed, and a dome light used as the only light source.A water reflections gel was applied to this(from a Daz set for Bryce),the diffuse level increased, and moderate falloff selected.Rendered in default Superfine setting it took 36 hours to render. Postwork included a levels and saturation boost, floating debris, additional highlights to the waterline where it met the rocks, light rays and light effects added to the heads of the group of creatures.I added my signature and resized the image. Thanks for viewing, and any comments you wish to leave, they are most appreciated!

Wow. That is quite inspiring. I really like that you post the steps of your process when uploading images, it helps one to appreciate the kind of work and creativity it requires to get the job done in Bryce. Well done on every front. The jellies are especially impressive and cleverly assembled! Full marks as usual!

That's a great project you've set yourself on. The image looks great, a fantastic and believable menagerie. I look forward to more alien environments.

Quite a project you've implemented. Really like the creatures in this one. Will look forward to seeing what you come up with next. I particularly like the large "white-ish" ones.

I'm viewing this series backwards - but there's nothing backwards about the quality of the modeling and images. Excellent!
