Description

I have always wanted to do critters, you know? House pets, wild life, insects etc... but I could never get the insects to hold still long enough. Anyway, there were these little flies hanging around in my apartment bathroom. They were the smallest flies I had ever seen other than gnats and those other "No-See-Um's" which pester you when your pushing a lawn mower. I had just gotten my new lenses for my trusty old Canon Powershot S3 IS, including the close-up lens. Man, look at the antennae on this thing, they look like a moth! So, tell me what you think. Is it a fly or a moth?

Its a Mothfly (really it is) Also called Drain flies in the order of Diptera (flies). And a very nice shot of one. They are pretty cool looking little things.

I'd say that's a moth. I don't think flys have antenna. Great macro though.

I have no idea what it is, but I love the wings and it is one fuzzy little critter. Wonderful shot.

Yeah, it's actually a fly in a fur coat...a drainfly, though they're fond of any wet areas; they're pretty well known as indoor/basement pests, and they're quite a chellenge to photograph as they don't always sit still as this one apparently did. Great details on this little critter and it's kinda cute in that sort of six-legged way. Really nice work.

I guessed a moth just by the antenna but NightGallery has it pegged. Great shot!Looks like you found a new line of subjects. :-)
